I’ve seen articles around the net talking about syncing with Google Calendar, even right here on Berrytastic. But I’d like to take this one step further. I’m going to tell you how you can sync Google Calendar with your BlackBerry and your iPod Touch so that any changes you make in any part of the equation will be reflected throughout so you’re always up to date.

The first thing you will need, and may already have, is Google Sync for your BlackBerry. You can get it at http://www.google.com/mobile/blackberry/sync.html or by going to m.google.com/sync on your Berry’s browser. Once you sign in you can tell it to sync your calendar, and just recently, your contacts. This is a great way to keep your contacts backed up, but, if you’re like me and you’re kind of fussy about how your contact information is formatted, you may want to stick to using Outlook for this. I don’t think Google’s contact formatting is all that great yet. In fact, when synced from the BlackBerry, the home address goes into the Notes section of the contact in Google, which in turn messes up your contact in your iPod. So, I recommend using this for your calendar only. Oh, and in the Google Sync options on your phone you can sync manually or automatically. Chose auto if you want everything to stay current.

That takes care of syncing with your BlackBerry. Now any changes you make in Google Calendar will show up in your Berry and vice versa. To get your iPod Touch (with 2.x software only) to sync up you need a free account at http://www.nuevasync.com. Once you’re signed in to Nuevasync, you can configure your Touch for syncing on the device setup page. Now I should say this: READ THE WARNING at the top of that instruction page. It talks about backing up your current data on your Touch. There are a number of steps to follow in the configuration process but don’t be discouraged, it really doesn’t take long.

Once your iPod is configured, you’re good to go. Any changes you make to any of your calendar apps will show up everywhere. And on your Touch, if you’re not in a Wi-Fi zone, don’t worry. As soon as you pick up a signal it will automatically update your calendar. If you make a change to your calendar on your Touch while not on Wi-Fi, it will send out the data the next time you connect. This, my friends, is how to stay in “touch” with your BlackBerry.
