My cousin was visiting from Philly for the weekend. It’s always great to see her since we’re both always so busy. It was a last minute decision so she was in a hurry when she packed her bags. She checked everything twice and began her drive. All looked well.

She arrived and a series of kisses and hugs began. Mom was thrilled and I began to prepare some coffee. I haven’t seen her for a while so some special, flavored coffee was in the works.

She seemed so wonderful and happy. Childhood memories came flooding back and we all began to have our much awaited conversations. Everything was going splendidly when a flash thought crossed her mind and she blurted out, “I forgot my cell phone!”  Following the initial shock of this outburst I asked her what was so important about not having her cell phone? Well, she proceeded in explaining how her cell phone, which is an iPhone, is the central component in her life. She had also planned on doing a little business here on her visit to us. It was only for a few hours and the rest of the time was for us.

I thought about it and said that if she wanted, for those few hours, she could use my cell phone which is a BlackBerry Bold. “I don’t know” she started to say. “I’m so used the iPhone and they are so different.” I began showing her the features of the phone and saw that her facial expression was brightening up. “Please, be my guest and use the phone. I have unlimited minutes if that’s one of your concerns”, I said. She gave it a minute thought and agreed to use the phone.

The time came for her to go to her business meeting and I handed her the Bold. “Good luck even though I’m sure you won’t need it”, I told her.  “Thanks. I’ll take good care of your cell and even give you a call from there” she said.

Time went by and before you know it, she was back here. I was wondering why she didn’t call me as she had said earlier but it really wasn’t such a big deal.  “I LOVE IT!” she shouted.  Startled again, since she always had a habit of doing that to me, I asked, “You love what?”  “Your cell phone is great! It’s great! I even got lost for a while and your phone got me back on track with the GPS”, she smiled.  “Well, doesn’t your phone have that too?” I asked. “Yes, but for some reason your phone has one that I like better”, she commented.

Of course I was taken a little with pride since it was a compliment for my BlackBerry, which I love so much. “Thanks so much”, I beamed.  “I’m trading mine for one”, she reported.  Now I found that to be a very interesting decision.  “I thought you really liked your iPhone?” I replied.  “I do but your phone fits me much better. Thank you for letting me use it. I am grateful”, she responded.

So that definitely made my weekend. I love my BlackBerry Bold for obvious reasons but to think that a devoted iPhone user switched to Blackberry just because she experienced my phone was wonderful, indeed.  Good job, my little BlackBerry wonder.
